Mr. JohnTemporary Restrooms - Special Events

The availability and accessibility of adequate restroom facilities is vital at any event to ensure the basic comfort of attendees. It's interesting to note, however that restrooms have evolved from a basic necessity to an important detail lending to the success of a special event.

Restroom Solutions For Any Event

Each event is special and has special requirements. Smaller events such as backyard parties, weddings or picnics may require individual restrooms with the addition of trash boxes or hand wash stations. Larger events such as festivals, fairs, or tournaments may need restrooms trailers, ADA approved portable toilets, trash boxes, roll-off containers as well as wastewater pumping services and project management.

Do I Need Temporary Restrooms ?

When considering the use of temporary restrooms for your event, ask yourself the following questions:

Will food or alcohol be served?

Events where food and alcohol are served necessitate the need for added restroom facilities. Also important is the need for facilities that include hand washing capabilities.

Are permanent facilities available and easily accessible?

Consider the adequacy and accessibility of any available permanent facilities. If the event is large and being held in an outdoor venue, restrooms should be clearly marked, easy to get to and use, as well as in adequate numbers for the amount of guests. If the event is held at a residence, consider the amount of traffic through the home to use the permanent facilities.

Are the permanent facilities served by a septic system?

Increased usage puts a strain on any septic system. To prevent a septic emergency, added temporary facilities are recommended.

Will there be guests with special needs or young children in attendance?

Guests with special needs may require a more accessible facility. Also, parents with young children may need a larger area within the restroom for easier navigation.

See our Tips and Advice section for valuable information on working with temporary restrooms or contact us for help.

Unit Selection

While selecting the right number of units is not an exact science, the following chart can be used as a guide for the number of temporary restrooms needed for the number of people in attendance. This chart is based on a 50/50 mix of men and women with no service scheduled for the restrooms during the event.

Keep in mind that many factors affect these numbers. Review our Planning Tips carefully or contact us for assistance.

Permit Requirements

If you are having your event at a public place, you should always check to see if you need permits. Since the requirements vary depending on location, you may need to need to do some investigating to get the answers you need. Start with the governing body of where the event will take place, such as the municipal office if the event is to be held in a town park. You may need to speak with the parks & recreation department, zoning department or possibly the health department. Make sure you have all the details of your event ready when you call; date, time, location, etc. Don't leave anything out and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Restroom Advertising

Sponsorships:

A large number of our customers plan charitable events. While we are not able to provide restrooms free of charge to all of our customers, there is a way to help deflect the cost of restrooms to ensure that profit goals are met for the organization. The way to do this is to ask for restroom sponsorships. Local businesses, advertisers and even event participants are usually eager to provide funds for sponsorship of various facets of charitable events. The sponsor will be asked to pay or help defray the cost of the restroom facilities in exchange for signage and recognition at the event. Signage may be placed on the outside and/or inside of the restrooms. Attendees are always grateful to have restroom facilities and are a captive audience while using them.

Advertising:

Advertisers will be pleased to know that we have partnered with Micro Target Media to provide an unforgettable medium for their advertising dollars. Targeted special events as well as construction contracts are available. Restrooms may be fully wrapped with your advertisement and/or interior frames may be utilized.
