Mr. John History

In 1964, Monmouth County, NJ was undergoing a building development boom. Morton Weiner, a young man with a history of sales and route work, had an idea to create a business born out of the need for sanitary restroom facilities on local construction sites. He teamed up with his brother David and thus began the Mr. John Company.

Morton and David worked with a carpenter to design and build their first portable restroom. The “unit,” as it was referred to, was a very efficient design that used a steel drum along with exactly three sheets of plywood with no waste! Morton rented the units to contractors and developers across Monmouth County who were thrilled to have a clean temporary restroom on the job site. After the success of this unit, Morton arranged to have several others created.

Over the years, Morton Weiner’s determination, dedication and ability to develop and implement a unique product propelled Mr. John into a thriving business. Thanks to strong organizational and leadership efforts, the company maintained a focus on customer satisfaction while incorporating new technologies, products and services to help deliver on the promise of clean, portable restrooms.

Today, Mr. Weiner’s legacy lives on and his commitment to the industry is carried out every day by his family and employees. Mr. John is now owned and operated by his two sons, Gary and Mitchell Weiner and son-in-law, David Dam. The service area has grown considerably and now encompasses the entire state of NJ, the New York metro area including Long Island, eastern Pennsylvania and northern Delaware.

Mr. John still works hard every day to deliver on a promise made in a modest Monmouth County backyard in 1964. Each employee strives to provide an excellent experience in the form of quality products and superior service in support of our customer’s needs.

Russell Reid History

The Russell Reid Company was started in 1943 in East Millstone, NJ by an army veteran named Russell Reid. The company operated locally until 1981 when it was acquired by then Mr. John President, Morton Weiner. Mr. Weiner maintained the Russell Reid name due to its recognition and excellent reputation in the waste management industry.

Under the guidance of an established management team, the Russell Reid brand was nurtured and it began to grow. Business practices already in place at Mr. John were utilized to provide better services for the Russell Reid customer base. As a way to promote efficiency, similar customers were grouped together into categories and individualized services were implemented. Today, Russell Reid still provides specialized services geared towards Commercial, Industrial, Municipal and Residential clients.

Over the years, significant investments were made in order to become proficient in understanding the waste management business in an effort to create a more efficient way of serving customers. The service area was expanded and new branches were created throughout the New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania areas. Licensed transfer stations were developed in the Glen Gardner, Keasbey, and Bohemia locations to provide additional disposal capacity for our customers.

Today, that level of commitment to the Russell Reid name has not changed. We continue to invest in our people, operations, equipment and locations to ensure the highest level of performance to better serve our customers.
